Alya Kayal Named New Director of Policy and Programs of US SIF: The Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment
WASHINGTON--US SIF: The Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment (US SIF) announced today that Alya Kayal is its new director of policy and programs.
Alya Kayal brings to US SIF a substantial knowledge of sustainable and responsible investing issues. She worked previously as vice president for Sustainability Research at Calvert Investments, Inc. managing corporate sustainability research and analysis for Calvert funds. At Calvert, Kayal also led high-profile public policy initiatives, engaged with senior management of companies, and partnered on initiatives with civil society organizations. Kayal has focused her work on international human rights and labor rights in the global supply chains of key retail sectors such as footwear, apparel and toys, as well as on corporate impact on the rights of Indigenous Peoples around the world.
US SIF CEO Lisa Woll said: “We are delighted that Alya has joined the senior staff of US SIF. She has a remarkable background and a wonderful range of substantive skills and management experience. As we advance responsible and sustainable investing issues under our new name, US SIF, Alya will play a key role in articulating our policy messages to policymakers and in working with our members to drive important programs.”
Kayal has been a member of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Stakeholder Council, a formal policy forum, where she participated in deliberating key strategic and policy issues around sustainability reporting. Kayal was also a member of the Investment Subcommittee of the Advisory Committee on International Economic Policy (ACIEP) where she promoted reforms of the US National Contact Point under the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.
Kayal is a co-author of “The Forty-Fourth Session of the United Nations Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities and the Special Session of the Commission on Human Rights on the Situation in the Former Yugoslavia,” 15 Human Rights Quarterly (1993). In addition, she is a contributor to the annual International Legal Developments Review of the International Lawyer, American Bar Association, and has authored the Human Rights chapter of the Calvert-Henderson Quality of Life Indicators.
Kayal earned a JD from the University of Minnesota Law School and a BA in Sociology and International Communications from Rutgers University.
