EEOC Plans to Cut Employer Reporting on Race and Gender

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) submitted a proposal to the White House to rescind the regulations for large employers’ annual EEO-1 data collection on race, sex, and national origin of the workforce.

Investor voice: Investors have previously called on the SEC to require companies to publicly disclosure their EEO-1 reports, as “the link between effective DEI management and long-term shareholder value creation is clear.”

Broader scope: The proposal may also impact disclosures from unions (EEO-3), state and local government entities (EEO-4), and public schools (EEO-5).

Walls up: “Without this data, the government, watchdogs, and advocates will not be able to identify promotion disparities, job segregation, and other barriers to equal opportunity at work. We cannot change what we cannot measure,” stated Jessica Ramey Stender, Policy Director at Equal Rights Advocates.
