Background on the Tanami Operations

In 2018-2019, a report by Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining (CSRM) presented the findings of a social impact assessment (SIA) of mining company Newmont’s Tanami Operations, located on Aboriginal land in the Tanami region in Australia’s Northern Territory.

Agreements with Traditional Owners

Newmont operates through agreements with Warlpiri Traditional Owners under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976.

Findings of the Social Impact Assessment

The SIA provided a socio-economic profile of the main communities neighboring the operations and analyzed the social and economic impact.
