Election Statement

My name is Iyassu Essayas, founder of Inflows and your current Vice Chair. I have served on the US SIF Board since 2021 and have been deeply involved across the organization during a period of significant transition and challenge. In addition to my service as Vice Chair, I have participated actively in board discussions on governance, long term strategy, and organizational stability during a time of intensified scrutiny of sustainable investing. I have supported the staff and board through leadership transitions and have helped strengthen our alignment around mission, policy priorities, and member value. I also regularly engage with members at events and convenings, represent US SIF externally when asked, and work closely with fellow board members to support the strategic evolution of our field.

I am seeking reelection because I believe US SIF stands at a pivotal moment. Our field is facing heightened political attacks, new regulatory requirements, and rising expectations for transparency, accountability, and credible impact. At the same time, sustainable investing continues to progress, with long term risks such as climate, worker rights, and racial equity becoming central to investment decision making. My motivation is to help ensure that US SIF remains the trusted, pragmatic voice that anchors this work for our industry.

My background in sustainable investment research, organizational governance, and financial services gives me a clear understanding of the pressures facing the field and the opportunities ahead. I bring experience in navigating complex policy environments, building coalitions, supporting institutional transitions, and communicating with diverse stakeholders. As a founder myself, I also bring a strategic and entrepreneurial mindset during a time when US SIF is sharpening its value proposition, expanding its reach, and strengthening its operational foundation.

If reelected, I will continue to help guide US SIF through this period of accelerated change. I will support the organization’s work to defend the legitimacy of sustainable investing, deepen member engagement, and strengthen our policy voice. I will continue to help the board focus on long term strategy and its member centered value. I believe we must expand our reach, sharpen our messaging, and ensure we remain a credible, data grounded resource for practitioners, asset owners, and policymakers.

US SIF is stronger today than it has been in years. We have new leadership, renewed focus, and a growing sense of shared purpose. My goal is to help carry this momentum forward, reinforcing the credibility and resilience of our field while ensuring that US SIF remains the leading voice for sustainable and responsible investing.

Thank you for your consideration. I would be honored to continue serving this community.
